To Be a Mother’s Daughter

Mother and daughter on beach

To be a mother’s daughter
Means being the recipient of love
Having sacrifices made for you
To be worried about and cared for

But also to inherit life’s guilt, shame, and sadness
To feel her insecurity
To be reminded of life’s mistakes
To be the outcome of trial and error

From mother to daughter
Neither damage or love can be avoided
Like two oars paddling a canoe in a circle, they will often contradict each other
Their coexistence is a blessing and a curse
A dichotomy as well as a sea of gray misunderstandings

To be a mother’s daughter
Means to learn to be a sift
Separating love from hurt Joy from sadness
And intention from outcome
